The Marvelous Microgreens At Flavour Fields

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 10 years, you probably know or have been exposed to microgreens in some way, shape or fashion. Maybe you glanced at an article about how healthy they can be, or seen them offered in one of your distributors catalog. Maybe you even got to use them in your kitchen, or had it in one of your dishes at a fancy restaurant. Whatever the case may be, we can assure you that you’ve never seen them done the way we do them at Flavour Fields.

If there is one thing we know how to do at Flavour Fields, it’s growing microgreens. Probably because we started out as the one of the biggest names in the culinary game, Koppert Cress. For those of you who already know we apologize for the redundancy. For those of you who are new to the name, Koppert Cress isn’t your average, basement grown microgreen companies. We actually take pride in the seeds we are planting. We scour the globe to find ancient and heirloom varieties so we can pack as much flavor we can into a single stem.

And if you are looking for variety, we have over 70 of ‘em. That’s right… 70! We have spicy ones like Wasabi, and not one, but TWO types of mustard. We have sweet ones like Sambuca and Carrot. And, even fruity ones like Micro Basil Lemon and Tangerine. Of course, we carry all the most popular varieties like Micro Basil, Arugula, Cilantro and Radish. But, what separates our varieties from all the others is our nutrition, flavor and the way we package them.

As far as nutrition goes, Microgreens are some of the healthiest things you can eat. Think about it like this…Microgreens are the first thing that comes out of the ground when you are growing plants. These tiny stems have all the minerals, all the vitamins, all the nutrition you can get from the adult variety packed into that one stem. So, if you eat a handful of microgreens, it’s almost like you are eating a handful of vegetables. And, in some cases like the Micro Celery and Micro Broccoli, they contain even more than their full-grown parents. Plus, we use natural light from the sun to grow our petite plants which gives them a boost in nutrition as well as flavor.

Speaking of flavor there’s a reason we call ourselves Flavour Fields. No, it’s not a nod to Public Enemy’s Flava Flav. It’s because taste and flavor are the most important factors we consider when we are developing our products. We obviously want microgreens to look good on your dishes and drinks, but it is so much more than just a decoration. Microgreens are like, The Dude’s rug. Ingrediently speaking, it really ties the dish together. Yup. That was totally a Big Lebowski reference.

Alright, now let’s talk about packaging. Here at Flavour Fields, you can get our beloved microgreens one of three ways. You have our Flavour Fields Cut Microgreens which come sealed in our Safe-T-Fresh clamshells. Perfect for tight refrigerators, or just what you need when you are plating a dinner for 150 people.

Then you have our Koppert Cress Living Microgreens, which grow in a microfiber substrate made from wood pulp. That’s right you get them alive and it doesn’t get any fresher than that! Pluck it, and plate it. Plus, since it comes grown in a fiber rather than dirt, it is food safe and keeps your kitchen clean. And if you are looking for something that will last, then Living Microgreens are definitely the way to go. We are supposed to say that Living Microgreens have a two-week shelf life, but that is being conservative.

We know. We just dropped a lot of microgreen knowledge on you. We get a little carried away when we start talking about all the reasons we love microgreens. With our numerous varieties, our unique packaging, and of course our flavors, you can just think of Flavour Fields as the triple-threat of microgreens! And if you didn’t catch all that, check out our website at: www.flavourfields.com.
